SECURE-CS LTT-2 Successfully Held in Brussels

The second Learning, Teaching and Training activity of the SECURE-CS project, LTT-2, was successfully held in Brussels, Belgium between 18–22 August 2025, hosted by SETA Brussels.

Organized under the project “Civil Society Initiatives Strengthened with Information and Data Security,” the training brought together participants from Türkiye, Norway, North Macedonia, and Bosnia and Herzegovina, representing civil society organizations and partner institutions. LTT-2 focused on one of the most urgent dimensions of digital security today: new generation security threats in the new information era.

Participants came together in Brussels for SECURE-CS LTT-2, focusing on new-generation security threats, disinformation, media literacy, social engineering risks, and practical response strategies for civil society organizations.

Throughout the five-day programme, participants worked on the changing nature of information security, with a particular focus on disinformation, misinformation, malinformation, psychological manipulation, media literacy, and social engineering threats. The sessions helped participants understand how information can be used as a manipulative tool and how civil society organizations can become more resilient against digital and informational risks.

The programme included interactive lectures, expert-led sessions, case studies, and hands-on exercises. Participants examined real-life examples of disinformation campaigns, discussed the psychological mechanisms behind manipulative content, and practiced methods for identifying unreliable information sources.

“Understanding digital security today means understanding how information can be manipulated, how trust can be targeted, and how civil society can build resilience against new-generation threats.”

ANKA GLOBAL PROJECT TEAM

A key part of LTT-2 was the practical workshop structure. Participants applied source verification techniques, analysed real-life cases, and engaged in scenario-based risk analysis activities. These exercises allowed participants to connect theoretical knowledge with real situations faced by civil society actors, youth organizations, NGOs, and local communities.

The training also included open discussion sessions under the Open Mic format. These sessions encouraged participants to share their own observations, local experiences, and professional reflections. This interactive exchange strengthened the learning process and helped participants consider how the training content could be adapted to their own institutional and community contexts.

The expert contribution of Prof. Dr. Erman Akıllı and Prof. Dr. Murat Yeşiltaş from SETA Foundation supported the academic and practical quality of the programme. Their sessions provided participants with a stronger understanding of the relationship between information security, public perception, digital manipulation, and civil society resilience.
